“While training at hospitals in the Bronx in the early 2000s, I started to see a troubling pattern. Patients presenting to the ER with severe buttock pain with swelling, infection, and fevers. They were desperate for help. The hospital staff prescribed antibiotics and sent them on their way. Undoubtedly, they would return to the ER in a month or so with the same presentation. Again, they were given antibiotics and told there was nothing else to be done. And the cycle would go on and on…
Many women have fallen victim to illegal injectors and are hesitant to discuss it with their medical providers out of shame, fear of judgement, or fear that there is no solution.
I knew I had to find a way to help these patients who were so obviously suffering. As soon as I entered private practice, I created the Silicone Removal Center. I knew these patients needed somewhere to be heard, understood, and treated in a manner that is comprehensive, yields positive aesthetic outcomes, and above all puts safety first.”
Silicone and Biopolymers are currently being used all over the world to enhance the size and volume of the face and body. In most cases of silicone injections to the face or body, patients are unaware of the long-term complications that silicone can cause. Complications from silicone biopolymers or PMMA may occur early after injection or as chronic issues years after treatment. Many women have fallen victim to illegal injectors and are hesitant to discuss it with their medical providers out of shame, fear of judgment, or fear that there is no solution. Having trained and worked in the epicenters of silicone disease in New York City, Dr. Jeremy Nikfarjam – a board-certified plastic surgeon – is one of just a handful of physicians in the world who truly understands this condition and prioritizes safe, medical solutions. If you are looking into Silicone Injection Removal in Long Island or New York City, visit New You Plastic Surgery where Dr. Nikfarjam is here to remove this foreign substance from your body while maintaining your aesthetic vision.
Silicone Removal can certainly be covered by insurance!
Silicone Injection Removal is a surgical procedure in which biopolymers such as liquid silicone and associated dead tissue are removed from the body. Silicone biopolymers are free fluids that infiltrate the tissue and muscle of the injected areas. These tissues undergo a long term immune response that causes scarring, death of tissue and “granuloma” formation. Therefore, the affected parts of the body can be vast, requiring unique surgical expertise in order to excise the material safely while keeping an aesthetically pleasing outcome. The goal is to reduce or eliminate the foreign body material and accompanying damaged tissue while maintaining the integrity of the native tissue.
Silicone removal is most commonly performed for the buttocks and hips, the face, lips and other areas. Dr. Nikfarjam has developed a surgical technique consisting of safely and effectively removing foreign body material from the body and face along with reconstruction to ensure positive outcomes.
The term “Silicone” has become a broad term that relates to a foreign body substance that is injected into the body in a non-medical setting. This term Biopolymer is also often used to describe this substance. The true substantive makeup of these materials varies. Since these injections are performed in a non-medical setting and are often attempted to be removed in a non-medical setting, there is little definitive evidence of what the material makeup is, and what the consequences of exposure to this foreign body material are.
