What is BOTOX?

BOTOX injections are non-surgical procedures used to administer botulinum toxin, a neurotoxin that works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother. BOTOX is the first and only FDA-approved cosmetic treatment to temporarily relieve wrinkles.

It’s a quick 10-minute treatment with minimal downtime. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, with results lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines.

It is injected directly into the muscle and will temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (also called glabellar lines). While it is comparable to BOTOX in its effect, it has been discovered to be a better fit for certain types of certain facial lines and wrinkles. The first step to getting BOTOX in Long Island or NYC is to schedule an in-person visit to New You Plastic Surgery for a consultation with either Dr. Jeremy Nikfarjam or one of our certified injectors. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations for the procedure. We encourage full transparency of medical history and expectations so that we can arrive at the best possible treatment plan and avoid unnecessary risks.

Our team will evaluate your facial anatomy, skin condition, and the target areas of concern. At the end of the consultation, we aim to arrive at a mutually agreed upon treatment plan, after which, you can receive your injection immediately following your consultation, or if you’d prefer, you can then schedule your BOTOX appointment for a convenient time later.

What to expect on the day of BOTOX

On the day of your BOTOX appointment, we start with facial cleansing to make sure the skin has no other chemicals on it. Next, the skin care specialist will provide you with a cold compress or topical anesthetic, followed by marking the area for the injection application.

The specialist will then begin to inject very low doses of the toxin using an ultra-fine needle directly into the marked areas followed by a gentle massage to help alleviate any pressure or pinching sensation. This is also done to spread the toxin towards the target area, and not any further.

A typical BOTOX treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete from start to finish but can vary from patient to patient. We request that you remain at the office for 15 minutes to make sure there is no allergic reaction, and so that you can receive post-treatment care instructions.

BOTOX Recovery

Given the non-invasive nature of BOTOX, recovery is fast. There might be some redness, swelling, or slight bruising at the injection sites and usually, they should subside within a few hours to a few days. We recommend you refrain from major physical activity for 24-48 hours so that the toxin can settle in place. It is also recommended to avoid touching or rubbing the treated areas.

Results from BOTOX injections gradually become apparent over the following days, with the full effect typically visible within one to two weeks. Remember to follow any post-treatment care instructions to ensure complete recovery and optimal outcome.
