Introduction
Dermal Fillers

The older you get, the more common it is to require a “little extra something” to keep yourself looking as young as you feel. While some people are blessed enough that a little extra makeup does the trick, the facts are that a majority of us need something a bit more intensive. Dermal Fillers are quick, easy, and painless treatments that can help renew yourself and provide you with increased facial volume in just one session. To learn more about this treatment and how New You Plastic Surgery has been helping improve the appearance of our Long Island and New York City patients, please keep reading the information provided below!

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical, injectable gel treatment that uses a naturally occurring substance in the body called Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which hydrates and volumizes your skin while at the same time, plumping the skin to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are often the best treatment for aesthetic issues in the lower area of your face, such as unwanted laugh lines, smile lines, and marionette lines.

We like to remind our patients that not all treatments or injectables are created the same. Some target different areas of the face and produce different effects. At New You Plastic Surgery, we offer our Long Island and New York City patients several types of dermal fillers to meet all of their needs, including JUVÉDERM, Radiesse, Restalyne, and Sculptra products. Below, we go into further detail of each filler.

Juvederm is an injectable gel that gently reverses many signs of aging in the face, including fine lines and facial wrinkles, crow’s feet, thinning lips, and loosening skin. This anti-aging treatment can also “plump up” the lips, sculpt the cheeks and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is non-animal-based and highly biocompatible, no pre-treatment testing is needed. JUVEDERM comes in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results generally last for two years and can be made to last even longer with follow-up and supplemental treatments.

Voluma is a Juvederm product that is injected deep into the tissue of the cheek area, giving you a natural-looking lift. There are no scalpels, stitches, or scars – just a healthy, refreshed look with results that last up to two years. It is a first-of-its-kind cosmetic dermatology method, which is why many people choose to have our Voluma treatments. Voluma contains the local anesthetic, lidocaine, in each syringe, so that there is immediate relief for any discomfort felt during the injection process. Complete recovery time from the Voluma treatment is around seven days, and you might experience some swelling and have the potential for a bruise.

As the first FDA-approved anti-wrinkle injectable used to treat facial folds and wrinkles, the Restylane family of dermal fillers is the perfect choice for instant results – lifting skin, smoothing flattened areas, and bringing back tone and definition to the eyes, cheeks, and lips. Every Restylane product is individually designed to treat specific areas to help you achieve your aesthetic goals for natural-looking results that last. With regular treatments, Restylane may even help your body improve its collagen production, enhancing your natural anti-aging efforts. Each of the Restylane products targets different areas of the face or various aging concerns.

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment specifically designed to target and eliminate moderate to severe fat below the chin, commonly known as a double chin. A double chin is caused by submental fullness, or a gathering of excess, stubborn fat beneath the chin, as a result of genetics, aging, or gaining weight. Kybella’s active ingredient, synthetic deoxycholic acid, naturally occurs in the body and helps break down and absorb dietary fat. When injected into submental fat, Kybella effectively destroys fat cells. Once destroyed, these cells cannot store or accumulate fat again, leading to a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin and an improved chin profile.

Sculptra is the only injectable that works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra is made of a synthetic compound called poly-L-lactic acid that helps stimulate your skin’s natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging. Sculptra works best in the mid-to-lower face and chin area, targeting your deep smile folds, chin wrinkles, and fine lines around the mouth. Sculptra is also capable of improving your contour with a Non-surgical Butt Lift or improving other areas of your body. A full treatment of Sculptra has results that can last as long as two years.

Radiesse Filler can replenish lost volume and provide you with a younger look for a very long period of time! Radiesse is made of calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are similar to the natural minerals found in the body, so allergy testing isn’t required. The body eventually absorbs the formula over time, leaving behind natural collagen. What makes this volumizing filler different is that it acts as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure while stimulating the natural growth of collagen, with the production continuing for several months and many patients experiencing lasting results for a year or more! Once Radiesse is injected, it plumps and volumizes the skin for a smoother appearance.

Dermal Fillers First steps

If you’re looking to get Dermal Fillers in Long Island and NYC, NY, the first step is to contact New You Plastic Surgery and schedule your initial consultation. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with one of our providers to discuss your goals for the treatment and decide on which filler is best for you. Your provider will examine the area you’re interested in treating and ask you questions about your medical history. It’s incredibly important to be open and honest when discussing your history and goals to help prevent any unnecessary risks.

After everything has been discussed, your custom treatment plan will be made and if you agree with it, we will be able to perform your filler injections immediately. If you instead choose to reschedule for another day, our Patient Coordinator will be more than happy to find the best day and time for you.

What to expect on the day of Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are simple, nonsurgical injectables with minimal recovery or downtime. This means you can get your treatment any time during the day and get back to your normal routine. Although every experience is a little different, you can generally expect the following from your Dermal Filler experience.

Before treatment, a topical anesthetic may be used to help numb treatment areas. Depending on your individual needs, a cosmetic professional will examine your fine lines, and wrinkles to determine the best course of treatment, which allows us to tailor your treatment to your unique needs. Photographs may also be taken to view before and after results. Next, the Dermal Filler will be injected under your skin to fill fine lines and wrinkles. As a quick and easy procedure, the entire process usually only takes 15-30 minutes.

Dermal Fillers Recovery

While there is minimal recovery or downtime after a Dermal Filler treatment, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise, alcoholic beverages, aspirin, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen, fish oil, and other Omega 3 products for the first 24 hours. This helps to minimize any risks of unwanted side effects.

After treatment, some patients report temporary redness, swelling, bruising, and minimal pain. However, these side effects are very mild to moderate and usually clear up within a few days. If you experience any of these side effects, your cosmetic professional may recommend applying an ice pack for a brief period of time.

How much do Dermal Fillers Cost?

The cost of Dermal Fillers in Long Island and New York City can vary based on various factors, including the treatment area, the number of sessions needed, and the specific type of Dermal Filler used. To determine the exact price for your personalized treatment, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our knowledgeable providers. Once your treatment plan is created, our Patient Coordinator will provide you with a comprehensive cost breakdown based on your specific requirements
